The 2008 Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival runs from July 31st to August 25th 2008, featuring 157 FREE Comedy, Theatre, Music, Childrens and Art shows across 8 Edinburgh venues | |

Welcome to the 2008 FREE Edinburgh Fringe Festival
In 2008, the Free Festival returns to Edinburgh with a fantastic selection of free shows... |
As always there is a huge selection of comedy, and this year the Theatre and Music sections have grown quite a bit - alongside our first children's shows. |
We're back at many popular venues from last year, and also have a brand new multi-roomed venue just off of thw Roayal mile - Espionage - which puts Free Festival HQ right in the centre of the Fringe, next to the Underbelly! |
The Laughing Horse Free Festival Venues were established in 2004, with the aim of making the Fringe more accessible and less expensive for performers - and also to provide top quality shows for Fringe-goers at a bargain price. All of this in professionally run and equipped venues, and bucking the trend of the larger venues who's prices increase year after year. To find out why we are doing this and who is involved in organising the Free Festival click here.

With Edinburgh's biggest beer garden, the Pear Tree is the home to an ourdoor stage featuring Free Festival shows every day from 11am - different perfromers every day, and always something to watch
and do as you enjoy a drink in the Summer sun!
The Pear Tree has been an Edinburgh institution since it opened as a bar in 1982. Situated close to Edinburgh University, it attracts a mixture of students and local customers, and during the Fringe is only a minute-or-two away from the Spiegeltent, Udderbelly, Gilded Balloon and Pleasance Dome.
The history building dates back to teh 18th century, and the tradition of great food and drink goes back just as far as that as well. Originally a residential house, the wealthy citizens of Edinburgh were entertained here by a succession of local figures. This tradition is carried on today, albeit with the benefits of a specially designed bar. Draught and bottled beers, a wide range of spirits, liquers and single malt whiskys, cocktails, wine, filled rolls, coffees... Just pop in and see for yourself.
