ClubWEST has been successfully promoting shows for over 10 years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The company is run by Kevin Williams who has managed to bring several hit shows to the Edinburgh Fringe including Ballerina who loves Bboyz in 2007.
2008 sees the return of ClubWEST to the Edinburgh Fringe but this year things are going to be on a much bigger scale. ClubWEST has managed to secure a number of venues within the Quincentenary Hall at the Royal College of Surgeons on Nicholson Street. This venue is newly refurbished and boasts a wide range of modern technology along with its plush surroundings.
ClubWEST this year is proud to be associated with Tartan Silk – an Edinburgh based Public Relations company. For more information please visit: www.tartansilk.co.uk
Within this venue ClubWEST is promoting a new culture of Fringe shows - an InvAsian Festival. This essentially is a mini festival within the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - all dedicated to Asian culture, music, dance, drama, film and art. It will be a showcase of events from Japan, Korea, India, Pakistan and China as well as new productions from some of the leading British Asian companies. It truly will be a popular venue with a diverse range of multicultural events.
Kevin Williams, of clubWEST, said: "There is so much Asian talent worldwide and in the UK, that it just made perfect sense to bring it all together in one place. The Royal College of Surgeons complex is the ideal venue for the festival, with performances scheduled in all four performance spaces inside the magnificent Quincentenary Hall."
The Consul General for India, Mr Ramesh Chander, also welcomed the creation of the festival.
"The introduction of a festival, especially dedicated to Asia, is a welcome change which I am sure will draw appreciation, enthusiasm and encouragement from the multicultural society of Scotland," he said.
Audiences at InvAsian, running the course of the Edinburgh Festival calendar, can expect to see a Pakistani and Chinese Elvis, Korean Beatboy performances and traditional Indian dancing and singing. So whatever your plans are for the Edinburgh Fringe festival, make sure to come past the venue to see what is on offer as ClubWEST goes EAST and does the Edinburgh Fringe Asian style!

The sequel of 'A ballerina who loves B-Boy', 'The Family'
B-boys encounter with Tai Kwon Do players. A dancing performance with Fantastic Martial Arts 'The Family'
The dancing performance with Korean martial arts, 'The Family' is a sequel of 'A ballerina who loves B-boy' which led great responds from audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2007. The encounter between B-boy and Ballerina evolves into that between B-boy and martial arts, and 'The family' is expecting to make another big hit.
The B-boy dancing presents definite edition of Hip-Hop dancing, harmonized power moves and stylish moves. Martial arts of Tai Kwon Do present the most moderate and strong action and the most accomplished techniques which cannot be experienced by Kung Fu or Karate. Hence audiences will pay attention with their hearts and eyes.
'The Family' is a non-verbal and dramatic performance which describes the final competition of 'the best family world contest' between Family Lee, the world leading family of B-boy dancing and Family Kim, the world famous and top Tai Kwon Do family.
Four members from each family compete in the final three rounds. They perform B-boy dancing and martial arts of Tai Kwon Do through competitive ono-on-one, two-on-tow, four-on-four battles and free battles.
Audiences can enjoy the most gorgeous B-boy dancing and splendid martial arts of Tai Kwon Do through competition which is proceeded in front of them. Moreover, audiences will be provided opportunities to dance with actors and to learn some martial arts, therefore 'The Family' is a really attractive show which audiences and actors, all together can enjoy the show enthusiastically.
We were frequently asked by audiences that actors of 'The Family' has seemed like real Tai Kwon Do players and it did make sense. Actors were casted amongst real players rather than actors learned Tai Kwon Do for the performance. They had an acting training for six months. Actors of 'The Family' in their mid-20s has trained Tai Kwon Do over ten years. Most of them has experienced 'the World Junior Tai Kwon Do Competition' and gained good results. Hence, it is not strange for them to act martial arts of Tai Kwon Do like real players.
Another attractive point of 'The Family' is that it as a comedy has fun parts as well as exciting and impressive dancing of B-boy and performances of Tai Kwon Do. This will lead audiences to communicate with actors, and they will be overwhelmed by interesting stories and ongoing splendid performances.
Actors of 'Family', their unique history.
The unique personal history of the actors in the martial arts dance performance, 'FAMILY' has attracted much attention. They did not start their careers as actors. They were university students who studied the martial art, Tae Kwon Do, and enjoyed B-boy dancing before they decided to take to the stage.
It is common for actors to receive training in martial arts in order to perform these skills on the stage. However, in a reverse of this trend, young Tae Kwon Do professionals attended auditions offered by the production company of 'FAMILY', LUNATIC Co. Ltd., in order to get the chance of getting their names on the casting board. B-boy dancers went through the same procedure. The LUNATIC Co. Ltd. believed that Tae Kwon Do specialists could perform with higher quality than actors who took short-term training in martial arts. After passing through 10 stages of audition, the remaining Tae Kwon Do specialists were then trained acting. This is the reason why the martial arts and dancing performances of 'FAMILY' are more exciting, attractive and touching.

The producer of "Family", Jae-Hyun Baek.
The producer of "Family", official show of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008, Jae-Hyun Baek is a very well-known comedian in South Korea. He was employed in 1993 as an official comedian for KBS TV, public broadcasting corporation in South Korea (Korean equivalent of the BBC). Since first appearing on the screen, he has gained notable fame in his native country.
He received the nickname "Idea Bank" due to his unique ability to produce a diverse and imaginative array of comedic formats and ideas. His colleagues, producers and writers have all acknowledged that he has a special gift and is a uniquely talented comedian. His comedy performance can be seen on TV programmes such as "Super Sunday", "Fun Club", "Gag Concert" and "Big Laughter"
The Gag Concert was one of the most innovative comedy programmes in Korean media history. It first aired in 2000, taking the format of a live stage sketch show. Comedians perform 2-3 minute sketches in front of an audience of 1,000 people. It was like bringing the theatre to the studio. Baek was the show's largest contributer. He produced "Gag Concert" in Daehak-Ro (Korean equivalent of Broadway) and then brought it to the TV screen. This comedy format has proved popular and has been copied and produced on other Korean TV channels. Jae-Hyun Baek was the brains behind this comedy format in Korea.
Baek started his career as a musical producer and presented his first work, "Christmas in the Kingdom of the Dead" in December, 2001. He dreamt of being a musical producer when he was a teenager, and hoped to communicate with the world through musicals. He has produced various works, such as "Lunatic", "Face Off", "Sad Pierrot", "Sky Walk" and "Family". The "Lunatic" has been on the stage in Korea for 5 years. It demonstrates the potential to produce Korean original work accessible to a wider audience. "Sky Walk" is a dancing musical performed successfully by B-boys in July and August this year. "Family" opened its first show in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008.
Korean extreme mix of Taekwon Martial Arts/hip-hop streetdance/comic lunacy and overall physical brilliance. Add to this some amazing pulsating musical soundscapes and you won’t believe your eyes or ears.
THE FAMILY is a unique and explosive spellbinding experience that cannot be missed at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival . Book early.
