Gift to the Future
A play in one act
written and performed by Colin David Reese

Gift

1623
John Heminges returns to his house on the site of the Globe Theatre with a
precious package: the first edition of William Shakespeare’s “Comedies Histories
and Tragedies”
As John starts to read through the plays, the memories come flooding
back – of back stage intrigues, performances, successes and disasters and above
all the importance of preserving the writings of a genius who, according to Ben

Jonson, “was not of an age, but for all time”

By giving the narrative to what was almost certainly Shakespeare’s closest friend, John Heminges,
“Gift to the Future” creates a convincing argument over the authorship question “Who wrote
Shakespeare?”
“Gift to the Future” lays all doubts to rest because it is steeped in the one aspect which the anti-
Stratfordians seem to have completely (and conveniently) neglected: These plays are perfect in
their theatricality and stage craft. Only a true theatre professional could have “wrought” these
masterpieces... someone who was intimately familiar with the playmaking process, how to produce
tension and drama, what an actor needed technically to create a character.
The only reasonable conclusion is that William Shakespeare of Stratford did indeed write these
plays -- taking into consideration all the known facts, the contemporary references and the fact that
the playwright was most certainly a working professional.
It is not known why Heminges should have taken on the immense task of collecting the plays into
one volume. One can only believe that some things are eternal: comradeship, professional respect,
and an awareness of genius. It is high time that Heminges’s dedication be fully recognised and
appreciated.
“One remains captivated by the charm of this evocation of Shakespeare”
“Very good play. The actor lives the character and the audience soon forgets that it’s an actor
and not John Heminges himself.”

The Rebel Cell
is on every evening at 5:40 pm at
the Pleasance Dome, and it’s a
kind of rapping political satire,
8-Mile meets 1984.

<http://www.babasword.com>

The Rebel Cell
A Revolutionary Special Feature with Concession Pricing
Rap Canterbury Tales Creator and BBC Slam Champion Join Forces Baba Brinkman, the Canadian creator of the award-winning “Rap Canterbury Tales” (“Truly awe-inspiring!” ????? Scotsman), isworking with the 2007 BBC Radio 4 Slam Champion MC Dizraeli to create “The Rebel Cell”, a brand new hip-hop theatre show premiering at the Pleasance Dome for the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe. Baba Brinkman and Dizraeli also form the underground rap group Mud Sun, which featured on the bill of this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The Rebel Cell is a politically-charged fable that takes place in the year 2013, in a dystopian future England where civil liberties are a thing of the
past. Dizraeli is a freedom fighter determined to topple the government and bring global capitalism to a halt, rapping: “We vow to bring the system down, sector by sector, / Every symbol of oppression, every pillar of its architecture”.
Baba Brinkman is a gadfly journalist who exposes the irony behind Dizraeli’s rebellion, rapping: “The biggest rebels get paid the highest salaries, / And Banksy paintings hang at the finest galleries”. When Dizraeli is arrested and charged as a terrorist, facing life in prison, Brinkman is granted an exclusive interview to confront his motives. The play takes you inside this interview, a lyrical battle of wits and worldviews.
The Rebel Cell engages directly with today’s culture of political tension in which one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, asking challenging questions about human rights and the rule of law. It is also a highly irreverent political comedy, and an experimental new form of hiphop performance, 8-Mile meets 1984.

Christoph Pepe Auer, Austrian Newcomer of the Year 2007 (Hans-Koller-Award), and Manu Delago, one of the best known Hang players in the world, created a new sound covering a wide range of musical styles. The first Bass Clarinet - Hang - Duo in the world plays hip chamber music which contains original compositions as well as creative arrangements of Nirvana, The Beatles and computer game soundtracks.
The pioneer duo discovered the great pairing of the Bass Clarinet with its huge tonal range and the enchanting sound of the Hang. This brand new percussion instrument was developed in Switzerland by the instrument builders of Panart. Since its premier at the Frankfurter Musikmesse it has won many hearts from musicians and listeners all over the world. Connecting the world of rhythm and the world of melodies the Hang looks like a UFO and is an absolute must-see.
More than 500 000 people watched ‘Living Room’ pushing the limits of their instruments on Youtube. They played concerts in front of wonderstruck audiences all over Europe and surprised with effects like Glockenspiel and with the world premier ‘Pepephon’. After performing at the Fringe the up and coming duo will collaborate with string players of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Who runs the RACKET?

Simon Brook

The world is a crazy place and Baghdad is its burning centre.
Simon Brook's job is to write some sense into it all.
And he's ok with that, providing there is a ready supply of whiskey.
But what happens when this jaded old journalist falls
in love with a beautiful young idealist?

Kenny Yates

Meanwhile Kenny Yates is on a mission.
With nothing more than a back-pack and his very own live tour Kenny is
ready to tell the world about one of its greatest heroes.

Part drama part stand up, Simon and Kenny's stories intertwine
twisting their way through laughter and tears, love and hate, loss and hope.
And behind it all a bloody and terrible war.

Richard Walker- Writer and Performer
THE RACKET - A Living For Today Production
A Living For Today Production-Directed by Anna Barry and Andrew Neil
A tale of two men, one beautiful idealist, one dead general...
Oh and one bloody war.
A political drama of two lives affected by war -
told with humour and pathos.

. Beat Up Dirty Yanks Crew,
An out-there character Los Angeles comedy group, now well-known as the Beat Up Dirty Yanks Crew, Ronnie Proudy, Tim Schwartz and Ty Twiss, after the show they presented at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival blew audiences away with laughter. These zany guys have the unique ability to interact with any type of audience, any where in the world without any script what so ever. These guys are improvisation specialists in character comedy, and are America's most idiotic, obnoxious, and energetic outcasts. Their now infamous Beat Up Dirty Yanks show in Edinburgh was a comedic character smack down slammed with stand-up, sketch and improvisation. Some contenders included Buck, a Jewish soul loving hick and Hector, a chauvinistic Mexican plumber. You simply never know what to expect from these guys so there is no way to put a title on the show they will present at the 2008 New York International Theater, Film and Arts Festival, other than they promise it will be show to remember and not to be missed. When Ronnie Prouty, the leader of the Beat Up Dirty Yanks Gang was invited to perform at the 2008 New York International Theater, Film and Arts Festival his response was, "I am very excited to go to the NYITFest, I will bring a variety show that will blow your top off."
So, be warned -- these guys are going to be armed and dangerous.

A DAY IN DIG NATION storms Performance Space 122

Dear Friend,

I hope you are having a fantastic summer. I am writing to announce the official New York premiere of the Flying Carpet production A DAY IN DIG NATION at Performance Space 122 (PS 122). After touring the show over the past several years from Seattle to Edinburgh to Prague to Boston, we are proud to have it arrive at PS 122, a theatre well known for daring and imaginative work.

The show will run every day at 8:30 pm, from August 13-23 except Tuesday Aug. 19.

Please put it in your calendars now—we'll also remind you as the dates approach.

I would love for you to join us at any night during the run. (You'll see links to buying tickets below.).  And bring your friends!  If you can round up a gang of at least five, I can arrange for heavily discounted tickets. Also, don’t hesitate to forward this e-mail to anyone who you think might be interested in this sort of work.

Here is a bit about the show:

"DIG NATION is the future of theater. Don't miss this show" – Seattle Weekly

“A multimedia vaudeville extravaganza.” – Seattle Times

"*****… endlessly, effortlessly, cool." – Three Weeks, Edinburgh

“Audacious…a comic, fluent, physical performance.” – The Scotsman

"A formidable work of art. [McQuilken’s] digital projections are brilliant. A riveting work." – Prague Post

Produced by Flying Carpet Theatre, A DAY IN DIG NATION follows the company's tradition of developing exciting emerging voices in the American Theater. After smash runs in Boston, Seattle, Edinburgh, and Prague, A DAY IN DIG NATION arrives at Performance Space 122 for two weeks in August. A mash-up of media, sound and live performance, this one-person adventure, performed by Michael McQuilken, features Rex, a man so consumed by technology that he forgets how to communicate with actual people.

Performed by Michael McQuilken; Written by Michael McQuilken and Tommy Smith; Directed by Adam Koplan; Animation by Gene Lange; Projections and Sound Design by Michael McQuilken
