LIVING ROOM
@ FRINGE, Edinburgh
CHRISTOPH PEPE AUER (bass clarinet)
MANU DELAGO (hang)
Dates: 5-10 August 2008
Venues: Sweet Teviot Place, Wee 1 (2.10 pm)
Rocket @ Demarco Roxy Art House (5.10 pm)
Christoph Pepe Auer, Austrian Newcomer of the Year 2007 (Hans-Koller-Award), and Manu Delago, one of the best known Hang players in the world, created a new sound covering a wide range of musical styles. The first Bass Clarinet - Hang - Duo in the world plays hip chamber music which contains original compositions as well as creative arrangements of Nirvana, The Beatles and computer game soundtracks.
The pioneer duo discovered the great pairing of the Bass Clarinet with its huge tonal range and the enchanting sound of the Hang. This brand new percussion instrument was developed in Switzerland by the instrument builders of Panart. Since its premier at the Frankfurter Musikmesse it has won many hearts from musicians and listeners all over the world. Connecting the world of rhythm and the world of melodies the Hang looks like a UFO and is an absolute must-see.
More than 500 000 people watched ‘Living Room’ pushing the limits of their instruments on Youtube. They played concerts in front of wonderstruck audiences all over Europe and surprised with effects like Glockenspiel and with the world premier ‘Pepephon’. After performing at the Fringe the up and coming duo will collaborate with string players of the London Symphony Orchestra.

A DAY IN DIG NATION storms Performance Space 122
Dear Friend,
I hope you are having a fantastic summer. I am writing to announce the official New York premiere of the Flying Carpet production A DAY IN DIG NATION at Performance Space 122 (PS 122). After touring the show over the past several years from Seattle to Edinburgh to Prague to Boston, we are proud to have it arrive at PS 122, a theatre well known for daring and imaginative work.
The show will run every day at 8:30 pm, from August 13-23 except Tuesday Aug. 19.
Please put it in your calendars now—we'll also remind you as the dates approach.
I would love for you to join us at any night during the run. (You'll see links to buying tickets below.). And bring your friends! If you can round up a gang of at least five, I can arrange for heavily discounted tickets. Also, don’t hesitate to forward this e-mail to anyone who you think might be interested in this sort of work.
Here is a bit about the show:
"DIG NATION is the future of theater. Don't miss this show" – Seattle Weekly
“A multimedia vaudeville extravaganza.” – Seattle Times
"*****… endlessly, effortlessly, cool." – Three Weeks, Edinburgh
“Audacious…a comic, fluent, physical performance.” – The Scotsman
"A formidable work of art. [McQuilken’s] digital projections are brilliant. A riveting work." – Prague Post
Produced by Flying Carpet Theatre, A DAY IN DIG NATION follows the company's tradition of developing exciting emerging voices in the American Theater. After smash runs in Boston, Seattle, Edinburgh, and Prague, A DAY IN DIG NATION arrives at Performance Space 122 for two weeks in August. A mash-up of media, sound and live performance, this one-person adventure, performed by Michael McQuilken, features Rex, a man so consumed by technology that he forgets how to communicate with actual people.
Performed by Michael McQuilken; Written by Michael McQuilken and Tommy Smith; Directed by Adam Koplan; Animation by Gene Lange; Projections and Sound Design by Michael McQuilken
