Z 0 0 7...... What the press said

"The balance of cutting-edge artistic power on the Fringe shifted decidedly away from the old Assembly empire in the New Town, and towards the younger Southside venues - (including) the Zoo" - Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman

"It is Zoo that most consistently served up engaging and palatal shows ...
their dance companies integrated the avant-garde into the accessible ... For the casual viewer, Zoo delivered approachable quality works" - Gareth K Vile, The Skinny

"Venues to the south of the Royal Mile, such as Zoo, are thriving" - Tim Cornwell, The Scotsman

"Another venue is set to join the ranks of major dance theatre destinations at the Fringe - Zoo Southside on Nicolson Street ... the repertoire here is a considered mixture of work for all tastes and ages" - Duska Radosavljevic, The Stage

ZOO VENUES

Zoo Venues is one of the leading venue management companies on the Edinburgh Fringe, with two thriving theatres at the heart of the Festival.

Our 2007 programme featured nearly 50 shows, representing the best in new writing, dance, cabaret, comedy and classic theatre, and underlined Zoo Venues' position as the ideal place to showcase your talent in a professional and supportive environment.

The company operates two venues - The Zoo and Zoo Southside - both situated in prime positions and featuring two and three performances spaces respectively.

Zoo Southside is one of the Fringe's most established venues, located on busy Nicolson Street. Its beautiful main house, featuring one of the largest stages on the Fringe, hosts our enviable dance and physical theatre programme, while the venue also boasts an intimate cabaret bar and an excellent studio.

The Zoo is a two minute walk from Zoo Southside, and one minute from the Pleasance Courtyard. Its two exceptional studio spaces provide the perfect setting for fringe theatre.

Within these pages you will find information about all aspects of performing with Zoo Venues. Technical plans, cost guidelines and our programming policy can be found via the links above.

We currently have two spaces available in The Zoo and three at Zoo Southside. Please follow the links below for more details. All five spaces feature professional technical facilities, with additional equipment available in the Main House.

Zoo Programming

In recent years Zoo Venues has welcomed hundreds of companies from all over the UK and abroad - their performances ranging from classic theatre to breakdancing, ballet, stand-up comedy, cabaret, physical theatre, trapeze work, magic, contemporary dance, children's theatre, new writing, multimedia fusions, jazz, blues and soul.

Our aim has always been to achieve a balance of hot new talent and established Fringe favourites, with acts representing every possible genre and discipline.

In our Main House at Zoo Southside we look to programme outstanding dance and physical theatre. Elsewhere our studio theatre spaces provide the ideal setting for cutting edge new writing, children's shows and the strongest classics, while our cabaret bar makes the perfect venue for comedy and music.

We are as flexible as possible during programming and aim to create a blend of shows that both complement and contrast each other - strongly encouraging audience crossover between the different elements of our bill.

Applications from companies are accepted from November onwards, we programme our shows during the January-March period.
